How to Enhance your Treatment Session
- Listen to your body before, during and after your treatment.
- Make note of any areas of redness, tenderness, tightness, or tingling on your body. This will give us valuable information and a good starting point for your next session.
- Redefine your general idea of “Pain”. Allow yourself to soften your experience of pain. Instead of identifying with the pain, become aware of the ‘sensation’ occurring in your body. Concentrate on the areas where sensations are present.
- Breathe into the areas of sensations. Take frequent slow deep controlled breaths. As you breathe, imagine that you are blowing air out of your body through the area that is producing the most sensation. This type of breathing puts you in touch with your body and thereby enhances your body awareness.
- Unwind - Allow your body to MOVE. You will be shown several self-treatment techniques during your sessions. Unwinding is an important part of self-treatment. As you unwind and movement occurs, fascial restrictions are being released. We call this the ‘fascia dance’.
- Express emotions experienced during and after your treatment session with your practitioner. The fascial system holds emotions in the body in the form of pain that may be preventing you from getting better. Often by expressing these emotions, the pain will decrease and you will feel better.
- Use images or memories. Feel free to share these with your practitioner. Together you will be able to find the source of your pain.
- Communicate with your bodyworker. Even little things that may seem unrelated, silly or embarrassing may help you along your journey. Your bodyworker can only help support you if you are honest with them.
- Stay positive. Remember to reinforce your intention to enjoy a ‘pain-free, active lifestyle’ by giving yourself messages such as “I am getting better every day!”.
- Remain focused. You may experience setbacks, and while this may be frustrating, it is part of the healing process. Keep focused on your goals and the progress you have already made to help you through each treatment session. Healing is not linear and you are already on your way!
- Set goals. Visualization is important! Picture yourself obtaining your goals. See yourself enjoying an activity that may currently be difficult for you. Establish a realistic time-frame for this goal to be met. If your goals are not completed on time, it is OK. Stay focused and know that the healing will occur.
- Wear comfortable clothing during your sessions. Gym shorts are recommended as well as a sport-type bra for women. It is important that you are able to relax and move freely during your treatment.
- Drink plenty of WATER! Our bodies are over 70% water. It is important to effectively hydrate our body every day, especially after your treatment.
